Janey Putney recorded a hat trick as the Webster City girls soccer team picked up their first victory of the season here Thursday night over Hampton-Dumont/CAL, 6-0.

After taking a 1-0 lead early in the contest, the Lynx broke the match open with five second half goals.

Mia Hansen, Heidi Mendoza and Elena De Leon Raymundo each found the back of the net for Webster City. Hansen added two assists.

The Lynx tallied 20 shots, with 13 on goal. Putney and Hansen each had three of those with Julia Griep and Mendoza recording two.

Lovie Pruismann and Jayme Perez both had a shot on goal during the match.

Kate Feltz recorded a clean sheet in net, saving both shots she faced from the Bulldogs on the night.

Since 2019, Webster City has won eight of the nine meetings with Hampton-Dumont/CAL, including each of the last eight. They have not allowed a goal over the last four matches.

On Friday night, the Lynx dropped a tough 1-0 decision to Garner-Hayfield/Ventura.

“This was the best I’ve seen the girls play in two seasons,” WCHS head coach Kristine Mason said. “We held one of the strongest teams in our conference to one goal, and had several chances of our own.

“Speed, strength, and overall athleticism go a long way at this level of the sport, but our girls have so much more than that. They’re combining, moving off the ball, gaining in technical skill and their overall understanding of the game.”

Webster City is at Belmond-Klemme on Monday.

Starting at $3.46/week.
