GOWRIE — The Webster City boys track and field team captured gold at the Southeast Valley Invitational here Tuesday night.
The Lynx finished first with 132 points, as Roland-Story was second followed by Madrid. The host Jaguars placed fourth with Ogden, Pocahontas Area and Gilbert rounding out the Class 1A team standings.
Jayden Weinzetl claimed two of the six event titles for Webster City, sweeping the 100 and 200. Weinzetl went 10.95 in the 100 and 23.15 in the 200.
Jaxon Griffith and Justin Callahan made it a sweep of the hurdles. Griffith captured the 110 hurdles in 15.31 and the 400 hurdles in 57.99.
Gabe Thumma won the 3,200 in a time of 11:38.23 while the Lynx were also first in the 4×800-meter relay in 8:50.7. The 4×800 consisted of Daniel Murillo-Delfin, Jack Barner, Carter Mickelson and Callahan.
“We had some fantastic performances,” WCHS head coach Chad Hisler said. “The No. 1 thing is that we won the meet and had contributions up and down the lineup.”
Claiming silvers for Webster City were Beau Nohrenberg in the shot put, Murillo-Delfin in the 800 and both the sprint medley and 4×400 relays.
Griffith, Aiden Hrnicek, Weinzetl and Dane Hansen ran the sprint medley while it was Callahan, Kaleb Draeger, Murillo-Delfino and Kaleb Hansen on the 4×400.
Cole Nohrenberg was third in the discus and fourth in the shot put, while the shuttle hurdle and distance medley relays also placed third.
“The kids continue to give their best effort,” Hisler said. “We had a number of personal bests and season bests performances.”
Adison Punkham (long jump), Mickelson (1,600) and the 4×100 relay each finished in fourth for Webster City.
The Lynx head to Saydel on Thursday to compete against Ballard, Bondurant-Farrar, Des Moines Christian, Des Moines East, Des Moines Roosevelt, Gilbert, Madrid, Nevada, Newton, North Polk, Oskaloosa, Pleasantville and Roland-Story.
