Runner-up hawks can't quite catch madrid

JEWELL — The South Hamilton boys track and field team went toe-to-toe with Madrid here last Thursday at a home coed invitational.
In the end, the Tigers were able to secure team gold, scoring 140 points. The Hawks finished second in the final standings with 138 points, followed by West Marshall, Collins-Maxwell, BCLUW and Colo-Nesco.
South Hamilton won four events, as Kolby Hodnefield, Hayden Hill and Nick Severseike all picked up golds along with the 4×200-meter relay, which featured both Hodenfield and Severseike.
Hodnefield won the 100 and placed second in the 800, Hill was the champion of the 3,200 and finished third in the 800, and Severseike scored the long jump crown.
Severseike, Braden Young, Tanner Twedt and Hodnefield comprised the winning 4×200 relay team. The group also finished second in the 4×100 relay.
Wyatt Gelder had two runner-up finishes, as he was second in the 100 and 400. Young placed second behind Severseike in the long jump and as the 4×800 of Laken Zanker, Jagger Ferrie, Thomas Wirth and Carson Gibbs finished second.
Twedt added a third in the 200, Jesus Garcia claimed bronze in the 3,200 and Carson Gibbs the same in the 400.
South Hamilton runs on Tuesday in Earlham alongside ACGC, Clarinda, Coon Rapids-Bayard, Grand View Christian, Nodaway Valley, Panorama, Van Meter and West Central Valley.
