Lynx girls in action at Eagle Grove
EAGLE GROVE — The Webster City girls track and field team placed fifth here Thursday night at the Lady Eagle Relays.
Algona won the meet followed by Garner-Hayfield/Ventura, St. Edmond and West Hancock. The Lynx tallied 57 points overall with eight Top-3 finishes.
Cloe Savitski led the way, as she raced to a second in the 200 and a third in the 100. Evie Davis was second in the high jump, and Adysen Poppen grabbed silver in the shot put.
Webster City’s 4×100-meter relay scored a second for the best relay finish. The quartet included Izzy Weinschenk, Kali Hartnett, Tristyn Wright and Savitski.
“The single thing that I am most proud of with this group is the willingness of many of the girls to be flexible and step up where the team needs them,” WCHS head coach Tyler Mosbach said. “Several athletes had to change events at the last minute. There was no questioning and zero hesitation.
“It was simply, ‘what do you need me to do?’ As a coach, nothing makes me more proud than a team full of selfless individuals.”
Amanda Lahr was behind Poppen in the shot put, as she placed third, with both the 4×800 and shuttle hurdle relays taking home bronze medals.
Running the 4×800 was Ariauna Reed, Wright, Hartnett and Weinschenk, while the shuttle hurdle featured Briley VanDeer, Wright, Hartnett and Weinschenk.
“We again had several PRs and have begun to cut time off of relays to set new season bests,” Mosbach said. “As long as we continue to improve, that is all we can ask of them.”
The Lynx return to action on Tuesday when they head to Algona for the Hannover Relays.
