Lynx edge out net win
IOWA FALLS — The Webster City girls tennis team pulled out a 5-4 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden here Tuesday in North Central Conference action.
Morgan Hackbarth, Alivia Burns and Gabbie Sebert scored singles wins, as the doubles teams of Allie Severe and Burns, along with Hackbarth and Sebert, clinched the dual.
Hackbarth, Burns and Sebert combined to drop just six games in singles, with the doubles teams losing just five combined on the night.
Cyra Christensen lost a close 8-5 decision at the No. 4 singles position for the Lynx.
“I thought we were a little flat at the start,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “But I also think a lot of that was just having a week off after four back-to-back meets. Sometimes you just need to play, but I did think we did a lot of good things and felt like we got going more by doubles.”
Junior varsity winners included Natalie Sega and Emalie Perez, Paisyn Bare and Haylee Ades, and Alondra Johnson and Abby Blake.
“Alivia played a really solid match and played with a ton of confidence,” Fisher said. “Morgan executed really well and it was good to see Gabby really play a solid match from start to finish.”
Webster City heads to Pella on Friday.
