Lynx double up Bulldogs
The Webster City boys soccer team continued their strong start to the season here Thursday night, besting Hampton-Dumont/CAL in North Central Conference action, 4-2.
An early goal gave the Lynx (3-0 overall, 2-0 in league) the lead, as Israel Torres found the back of the net off an assist by Francisco Ramirez Carmona. The Bulldogs, though, answered back 10 minutes later to tie it up.
“It was a great start scoring quickly,” WCHS head coach Craig Signorin said. “Hampton-Dumont/CAL didn’t lose their intensity and we unfortunately did, giving up a goal.”
With the score locked at 1-all in the second half, Eddy Fuentes-Cruz took over. But it wasn’t his usual way, as Fuentes-Cruz had two assists on goals by Torres and what would be the game-winner by Dany Morales.
Fuentes-Cruz did add his own goal on a penalty kick five minutes after Hampton-Dumont/CAL cut the lead to 3-2.
Webster City finished with 11 shots on goal and seven corners to five shots on goal by the Bulldogs.
“We changed a couple things in our formation in the second half and the boys executed extremely well,” Signorin said. “The Carmona brothers were outstanding in the back. Jesus (Mendoza Ruiz) played some quality minutes, as well.
“Wilmer (Padilla Chavez) worked his butt off all game in the middle and it was fun to watch Israel, (Conner) Peck and Eddy connect going forward.”
The Lynx return to action on Monday when they host Belmond-Klemme.
