The South Hamilton girls golf squad isn’t short on numbers or experience as the Hawks head into the 2025 season.

There is still work to do, though. Head coach Kathi Fisher is looking for consistency both physically and mentally in hopes that her team turns the corner on the links by next month.

Four varsity regulars are back for South Hamilton, which opens its campaign on Tuesday with a triangular at Clarion-Goldfield/Dows. A strong junior class, led by Arynn Luppes, Abby Richardson, Sydney Gelder and Sophie Nibe, anchors the lineup.

“Competition will be a strength,” Fisher said. “Players will have to earn and keep their spot on the team.

“These girls work hard and have a lot of fun (improving) their game. They are very coachable.”

Luppes was on the scorecard for every nine-hole dual meet as a sophomore last spring. The other three juniors competed in multiple varsity meets as underclassmen.

Fisher is also encouraged by the arrival of standout athlete Kaylen Trask, who has joined the program as a junior.

There are no seniors on the Hawk roster. Fisher must replace graduated regulars Rebekah Carlson — an individual state qualifier in 2023 — and Abby Adamski.

“We have to continue to improve our mental game,” Fisher said. “Fighting through mental and physical fatigue, especially in the 18-hole tournaments, is a challenge.

“We’d like to consistently be posting team scores in the low-200s (for duals). And we’d like to finish in the upper half of the conference tournament, while making it past the first round of regional play.”

South Hamilton’s first home meet is on Thursday in a triangular against Roland-Story and West Marshall. The Hawks’ home invitational is May 9 in Jewell.
