EAGLE GROVE — The Webster City boys took part in the Umstead Relays here Tuesday night.

The Lynx finished in third overall behind Algona and Humboldt, as Iowa Falls-Alden, Forest City, Clarion-Goldfield/Dows and Eagle Grove rounded out the team standings.

Jayden Weinzetl led the way, sprinting to gold in both the 100-meter and 200-meter races. Weinzetl was clocked at 11.44 in the 100 and 23.05 in the 200.

Jaxon Griffith added a first, as he won the 110 hurdles in 15.94.

Webster City’s 4×800 relay also placed first by nearly nine seconds with a time of 8:52.88. That quartet consisted of Justin Callahan, Carter Mickelson, Daniel Murillo-Delfin and Jack Barner.

“We had some great early-season performances,” WCHS head coach Chad Hisler said. “That was Jaxon’s first attempt at running the 110 hurdles, so winning it was pretty incredible.

“We had many fine performances throughout the night.”

Murillo-Delfin, Mickelson and Callahan each added a silver. Murillo was second in 2:10.22 in the 800, Mickelson placed second in the 1,600 in 4:59.80 and Callahan second in the 400 hurdles in 59.17.

Barner was right behind Mickelson in the 1,600, as he finished third in 5:01.56. Also adding bronze medals were the 4×100 (45.82), sprint medley (1:39.56) and shuttle hurdle (1:10.73) relays.

Running the 4×100 were Aiden Hrnicek, Griffith, Adison Punkham and Weinzetl, the sprint medley consisted of Weinzetl, Hrnicek, Griffith and Callahan, and the shuttle hurdle was run by Hrnicek, Griffith, Jamey Stansfield and Zakiah Christensen.

The Lynx head to Humboldt on Friday to compete against the host Wildcats, Algona, Boone, Eagle Grove, Clear Lake and Emmetsburg beginning at 4:30 p.m.
