Webster City boys in action on their own turf

The Webster City boys track and field squad got the opportunity to compete in front of the home crowd on a perfect night here Tuesday for the Lynx Relays.
Waverly-Shell Rock took home top honors with 148 points, followed by Iowa Falls-Alden, Humboldt, Mason City and Webster City in the nine-team field.
Senior Jayden Weinzetl, who was honored during the meet alongside classmate Max McGilligan, won the 100-meter and 200-meter races. Weinzetl went 11.10 in the 100 and clocked a time of 22.48 in the 200, which was a personal best.
Justin Callahan joined him atop the podium, as the junior was first in the 400 hurdles in 56.53. He also placed third in the 400 in 51.32.
Jack Barner placed third in the 3,200, clocking a personal best time of 11:11.16, as Cole Nohrenberg added a third in the discus (138-10) and brother Bean Nohrenberg a third in the shot put (43-11).
Daniel Murillo finished fourth in the 800 and Gabe Thumma placed fourth in the 1,600 and fifth in the 3,200. Aiden Hrnicek added a sixth in the 110 hurdles.
Webster City’s sprint medley relay placed third in a time of 1:37.30 with the 4×100 relay taking fourth. That consisted of Kaleb Hansen, Hrnicek, Weinzetl and Callahan, as the quartet closed in on setting a new school record.
“Another strong performance by our group,” WCHS head coach Chad Hisler said. “It was great to honor Jayden and Max, and I thank them for their leadership and commitment to the program.”
Weinzetl will run at the Drake Relays later this week in the 100 while the team competes next on Friday in Pocahontas.
