Another big win for Webster City
WEBSTER CITY — The seventh-ranked Webster City boys soccer team cruised to a 9-0 victory over Charles City on Thursday.
The Lynx (7-0 overall), who scored nine goals for the second straight match, took a 7-0 lead into halftime and never looked back. Eddy Fuentes-Cruz scored five times, while Israel Torres recorded a hat trick. Conner Peck added a goal as well.
“Eddy, as we’ve seen, has been one of the top goal scorers in the state the last two years,” said WCHS head coach Craig Signorin. “He’s so dangerous when he’s attacking defenders, but he doesn’t get enough credit for how he creates for others also.”
Fuentes-Cruz has 17 goals on the season, which is fifth best in the state and fourth best in Class 2A. He has 81 for his career.
The Comets managed only two shots on goal.
“Defenders have been locking in on Eddy throwing two-three guys around him,” Signorin said. “That leads to conversations with Israel, and letting him understand that he’s next in line. He’s going to be given opportunities to finish because Eddy is trying to be contained.
“Israel has been taking full advantage of them, and we look to continue that moving forward.”
The Lynx are back in action on Tuesday at Clear Lake, with the varsity match starting at 5:30 p.m.
