5 wins for Hawk girls at home

JEWELL — The South Hamilton girls track and field team had a strong performance at their coed home invitational here last Thursday, winning four relays with another event victory.

The Hawks placed third overall, scoring 139 total points. Madrid won it followed by BCLUW. West Marshall, Collins-Maxwell and Colo-Nesco were behind South Hamilton.

Cici Herrick captured the 400-meter run in a time of 1:05.89 and also ran on the winning 4×400-meter relay.

Brooklyn Doolittle was part of all four winning relay races, running the anchor leg on the sprint medley, 4×200, 4×100 and 4×400.

Sydney Flaugh ran the lead leg on the sprint medley, 4×200 and 4×100, and Sara Scheller ran the second leg of the sprint medley and 4×200. Riah Van De Pol was on the sprint medley, 4×200 and 4×100, with Emma Ammerman rounding out the 4×100 and Rosemary Chamness the 4×400.

Scheller added a second in the 400 hurdles, Isabel Swenson was the runner-up in the high jump and Claire Hewitt took silver in the long jump.

The shuttle hurdle relay of Viviane Swenson, Abigail Moline, Allie Neuberger and Jillian Hesse placed second, as did the 4×800 relay of Beaune, Bianca Seaton, Herrick and Caitlin Bare.

Scoring third place finishes for the Hawks were Beaune in the 800, Tessa Skartvedt in the shot put and the distance medley relay of Van De Pol, Scheller, Chamness and Bare.

South Hamilton hits the track again on Tuesday when they travel to Earlham. The field includes ACGC, Clarinda, Coon Rapids-Bayard, Des Moines Christian, Grand View Christian, Nodaway Valley, Panorama, Van Meter and West Central Valley.
