STEPHENVILLE, Tex. — After making his mark at both Webster City High School and Iowa Central Community College, Tyler Olson’s collegiate career is nearing its end at Tarleton State University.
From high school to the junior college and now the NCAA Division I level, Olson’s consistent excellence has cemented his legacy on the baseball field.
Now a senior in his final semester at Tarleton State, Olson reflects on his time with his current program by noting the importance of camaraderie and the challenge of being a leader.
“I’ve learned to step outside of my comfort zone to uphold the standards that my coaches expect of the team,” Olson said.
In his high school and collegiate pitching outings combined, Olson has racked up 343 strikeouts in 250.1 innings pitched. He has appeared on the mound in 64 different games throughout that same timeframe for either the Lynx, Tritons or Texans thus far.
At Webster City, Olson was a two-time second team all-stater and a three-time first team all-North Central Conference selection. The Lynx captured three NCC titles during his playing days, which were also limited by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Collegiately, Olson helped the Tritons earn the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) regular season title. Tarleton State has a Western Athletic Conference (WAC) crown since Olson’s arrival.
With an impressive stat line already in the books, Olson is now shifting his focus to his remaining time as a student-athlete.
“I’m just trying to soak it all in and remember how the grind of playing a college sport feels because it’s not going to last forever,” said Olson. “I’ve learned to be intentional with time management, and that will be one of the best skills I will take with me into the future.”
Looking beyond the diamond, Olson has his turfgrass management degree from Iowa Central and plans to use that degree back in his hometown upon graduation.
“I will be returning to Webster City, as I have accepted the Assistant Superintendent role at Briggs Woods Golf Course,” said Olson.
The defending WAC tourney champion Texans currently have 11-14 record with 30 games left on their regular season schedule. Olson is 2-1 with a 3.18 earned run average to date in 2025.
Jamin Stuhr is currently a junior at Dordt University in Sioux Center. The 2022 Webster City High School graduate is also a member of the Defenders’ football program.
