NEVADA — The season came to an end for the Webster City boys basketball team here on Monday night, as they fell to Nevada in a Class 3A substate quarterfinal by a score of 60-23.
The Cubs (19-4 overall) led by eight after the first quarter before going on a 27-7 run in the second period to break the game open.
For the Lynx (7-15), the contest marked the final time on the court for seniors Conner Peck, Cole Miller, Luke Firsching and Damion Elliott. Miller was the team’s leading scorer this season, with Peck — another starter — ranking just behind Carter Mickelson. Firsching started in over half of the team’s games, and Elliott appeared in eight.
Nevada advances to the Substate 3 semifinal where they will face Solon (17-5), who knocked off Benton by a score of 58-55. The top of the bracket features No. 1 Clear Lake (22-0) taking on Vinton-Shellsburg (10-13).
