Thrilling road win for Lynx boys at Algona

Miller knocks down 8 triples, including the game winner

ALGONA — The Webster City boys basketball squad picked up a thrilling road victory at Algona on Friday thanks to a spirited second-half rally.

The Lynx (6-10 overall) earned a 56-54 road victory over the Bulldogs, overcoming a slow second quarter that left them in a double-digit halftime hole.

That deficit was still in the same range when Webster City began its clutch comeback in the final period.

Cole Miller had a night to remember, scoring 24 points on 8-for-14 shooting — all from behind the arc. Miller also had six rebounds.

Miller’s go-ahead triple with time winding down was the difference. Webster City had overcome almost all of a 13-point deficit, but still trailed 54-53 when Miller drained his eighth and final trey from the corner.

“I was so proud with how our kids never quit,” said Lynx head coach Brett Ratcliff. “We were down 13 late in the fourth. We continued to trust in each other and execute in the half court.

“We had several different guys step up on both ends of the floor, and of course if Cole Miller hits eight (three-pointers), it opens up things in the middle of the court.”

Gavin Griffith added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Lynx. Matthew Tesdahl contributed five assists and three steals, while Conner Peck contributed four assists.

Ben Helmers had another big game for the Bulldogs (6-10), scoring 28. Jaxon Eischen was also in double figures with 12.

This win finished a season sweep for the Lynx over Algona.

The Lynx now travel to Clear Lake on Tuesday.

Starting at $3.46/week.
