Lynx boys turn their attention to tourney
The Webster City boys came up short in their regular season finale, falling at Boone, 81-61.
It was a high-scoring first quarter, as the Toreadors (8-14 overall) took an early 26-17 advantage on the Lynx (7-14).
The squads would combine for 32 points in both the second and third quarters each, and go for 35 in the fourth.
Webster City now prepares for Monday night, when it travels to Nevada in a Class 3A, District 3 opener at 7 p.m. The Cubs (18-4) earned a 64-48 victory over Boone in their regular season finale.
The Lynx and Nevada have played three times since 2019, with Nevada winning the last two, including pulling out a 57-54 victory in January. John Nelson led the Cubs in that game with 20 points while Jaxon Griffith had 14 for the Lynx.
Nelson, a junior, is the top scorer for Nevada at 15.4 per game with 7.5 rebounds. Easton Gray averages just under 12 and Drake Hinson eight.
For Webster City, senior Cole Miller leads the way at 10.4 points with 4.5 rebounds, followed by Carter Mickelson (eight points) and Conner Peck (7.7).
The winner between the Lynx and Cubs advances to face either Solon (16-5) or Benton (7-14) in the semifinals on Thursday. The top-half of the bracket includes No. 1 Clear Lake, which plays Hampton-Dumont/CAL, and Center Point-Urbana, which opens with Vinton-Shellsburg.
