Lions use second half surge to top Lynx

CLEAR LAKE — The Webster City girls were right there with Clear Lake here Tuesday night on the road.

Down by just two at the break, the Lynx had trouble stopping the Lions in the third quarter, falling 55-31.

Clear Lake went on a 21-8 run after halftime to take control of the contest, finishing the second half by outscoring Webster City 36-14.

Olivia Gallentine scored nine points with three rebounds, three assists and two steals to lead the Lynx while Avery Poppen added six points. Evie Davis chipped in five points, four rebounds and three steals, with Marisaa Hedeen adding four boards and Tristyn Wright three steals.

“We played a very good first half, particularly at the defensive end,” WCHS head coach Marty McKinney said. “We were down 19-17 at half and were up 22-21 with just over six minutes left in the third. Give Clear Lake credit, as their defense made us very uncomfortable in the second half and they converted turnovers into points.”

Gallentine is the leading scorer for Webster City, averaging 10.2 points per game and pulling down 7.1 rebounds. Hedeen is scoring at a 5.4 clip.

The Lynx will now face Belmond-Klemme on the road Friday night beginning at 7:15 p.m. The game replaces the planned North Central Conference contest with Clarion-Goldfield/Dows.

Starting at $3.46/week.
