The Webster City boys were edged by rival Humboldt in their season finale on Monday, 62-57.

The Lynx (7-13 overall) held a nine-point lead on the Wildcats (14-6) heading into the fourth quarter, but Humboldt rallied with a 23-9 run to close the contest.

“I thought the kids played extremely hard,” said Lynx head coach Brett Ratcliff. “We played well enough to win…we just didn’t make enough winning plays down the stretch.

“Humboldt got into the bonus early in the fourth quarter, and that’s how they came back late in that game. Defensively, we played a very good game for stretches. We made it very difficult for them to get into a rhythm on the offensive end. Ultimately, free throws were the difference.”

Juniors Carter Mickelson and Matthew Tesdahl paced a balanced Lynx attack with 11 points each. Sophomore reserve Coyce Bertran added 10.

Conner Peck contributed nine points, eight rebounds and five assists. Gavin Griffith hauled in six boards.

The Lynx head to Boone on Thursday in the regular season finale.

Starting at $3.46/week.
