Hawk girls ousted at Dike-NH, 56-33

DIKE — The South Hamilton girls saw their season come to an end here this past Saturday night, falling to Dike-New Hartford in a Class 2A regional contest by a final of 56-33.

Claire Hewitt scored 10 points, Isabel Swenson had nine and Tessa Skartvedt added six points, 10 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and three steals for the Hawks, who finish 6-16 overall.

“It’s never a good feeling when the season comes to an end, but I thought there were a lot of positives for our girls to take from this game,” South Hamilton head coach Mark Henderson said. “We had stretches in this one where we played as well as we had all season.

“Unfortunately, we also had stretches where we made things too easy for Dike-New Hartford.”

The contest featured runs by both teams, as the Wolverines scored the first 11 points of the game before the Hawks answered with an 11-3 run to get back in it. Dike-New Hartford closed the opening half with an 18-2 burst to gain control.

For the Wolverines (9-14), Izzy Norton scored 14, Madde Buskohl added 12 and Silvey Fuller 10.

“I was proud of the fight our kids showed,” Henderson said. “The thing I’ve tried to stress with this team all year was to always compete. Some nights, we haven’t done that, but in this game, we competed.

“We didn’t end up on the winning side, but we can be proud of the effort.”

Swenson knocked down three 3-pointers. Hewitt grabbed four rebounds.

South Hamilton did not have a senior on the roster this year, as they will return everyone next season.

Starting at $3.46/week.
