Webster City girls win second in a row

GOWRIE — The Webster City girls basketball team prevailed for the second consecutive time here on Tuesday, easily defeating Southeast Valley by a final of 61-21.

“We were able to come out sharp against SEV after the hard-fought win Monday against Nevada,” Lynx head coach Marty McKinney said. “We had a season-high 19 assists on 22 field goals. We were again balanced in scoring, with six girls scoring six or more points.

“We now need to build off the momentum from the last two nights and use it to continue to get better.”

It was all Webster City from the start, as the Lynx raced out to a 23-5 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. The visitors were up 37-11 by halftime, then delivered an 18-2 knockout punch in the third period.

Marissa Hedeen had 15 points for the Lynx, with reserves Evie Davis (9), Isabel Grossoehme (8) and Alivia Burns (6) adding to the depth and balance. Starters Olivia Gallentine (6) and Tristyn Wright (6) were also contributors for Webster City.

Hedeen (6 rebounds), Lovie Pruismann (6), Davis (6), Gallentine (5) and Avery Poppen (5) led the way on the boards. Gallentine dished out four assists and contributed three steals.

Burns came up with four steals of her own, as did Wright and Davis. Webster City only committed 12 turnovers.
