Webster City boys pull away from IF-A
The Webster City boys used a huge second half to sprint past Iowa Falls-Alden here Tuesday night, 73-53.
The Lynx used a balanced attack to wear down the Cadets. Gavin Griffith led the way with 16 points, but Conner Peck (14), Carter Mickelson (14), Matthew Tesdahl (12) and Cole Miller (11) all reached double figures as well for Webster City (5-10 overall).
Down by seven at the break, the Lynx outscored the Cadets in the third quarter, 26-16, to take a three-point lead.
From there, it was all Webster City, as they went on a 25-8 run to secure the victory and improve to 5-1 over the last six vs. Iowa Falls-Alden (7-9).
“I thought the guys came out of half time really strong,” WCHS head coach Brett Ratcliff said. “We made a few adjustments at the half, and the guys executed well in the second half.
“I was really happy with how well we shared the ball in the second half. We knew defense was going to be a key for us in the second half, and that led to good looks on the offensive end.”
Miller and Mickelson both hit a pair of three-point baskets in the second half. Mickelson and Tesdahl had all but two of their points after the intermission, as Webster City avenged a lopsided 65-30 road loss to the Cadets last month.
“This was a redemption game for us, because we knew we were better than we showed against them earlier in the season,” Ratcliff said. “Hopefully, we can build off of this and take this momentum into Friday at Algona.”
The Lynx face the Bulldogs on the road this Friday at 7:45 p.m.
