South Hamilton heads to the Well

DES MOINES — The South Hamilton basketball teams will open 2025 at the home of the state tournament on Thursday.

The Hawks face St. Edmond of Fort Dodge inside Wells Fargo Arena as part of the Iowa Wolves High School Hoop Series for 2024-25.

Varsity girls tip off at 6:30 p.m., with boys to follow.

The South Hamilton girls are 2-5 overall and 2-3 in the Heart of Iowa Conference heading into the second half of the season. Juniors Isabel Swenson (7.3 points per game) and Claire Hewitt (6.1) have been the leading scorers for the Hawks, with Hewitt also pulling down over six rebounds per contest.

Sophomore Tessa Skartvedt has also been productive on the boards at 8.4 rebounds per night. Swenson is chipping in 3.4 steals, with Skartvedt at 1.9 blocks.

The South Hamilton boys are seeking their first victory in their eighth game. Freshman post player Benjamin Swenson (10.5 points, 5.0 rebounds) and junior Sam Koehnk (8.6 points) are pacing the Hawks, with senior Grant Larson contributing six points and nearly two steals on average.

The St. Edmond girls bring a 1-5 overall record into Thursday’s tilt. The Gael boys are undefeated so far at 5-0.
