South Hamilton girls tipped at GV Christian
DES MOINES — The South Hamilton girls were unable to make the key plays down the stretch here last Friday, falling to Grand View Christian, 43-39.
The loss marked the third straight for the Hawks (5-10 overall) after reeling off three consecutive wins.
Isabel Swenson scored 14 points with four rebounds, knocking down four 3-pointers. Freshman Allie Neuberger added nine points and Lillie Ammerman had seven.
Tessa Skartvedt chipped in four rebounds, a block and a steal while Claire Hewitt had three assists.
“I thought the difference in the game was rebounding,” South Hamilton head coach Mark Henderson said. “They were physical and worked hard to keep possessions alive while we did not do a great job of boxing out.
“I thought Allie had a big game for us with Kaylen Trask out due to being sick.”
For the Thunder (7-9), Maiah Murphy scored 24 points while Morgan Pelham had 21 rebounds.
“Credit Grand View Christian for making it tough on us and for making the tough plays at their end,” Henderson said. “Both teams played well, but I thought they executed their offense better, especially in the fourth quarter.”
The Thunder outscored the Hawks in the second half, 26-14, and in the final eight minutes, 14-6.
South Hamilton heads to Roland-Story on Tuesday.
