SENIOR SALUTE
Webster City girls earn first NCC win on Senior Night
It was a memorable Senior Night for the Webster City girls basketball squad here on Tuesday.
Along with honoring five players, the Lynx picked up their first North Central Conference victory of the season in a 48-44 triumph over Iowa Falls-Alden.
Webster City (3-13 overall) used a 16-point third quarter to erase a slim halftime deficit, taking the lead and control of the contest.
Senior Olivia Gallentine scored 10 points while adding seven assists and five rebounds. Classmate Marissa Hedeen added eight points, four rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
“It was so cool to win our last home game on Senior Night against an Iowa Falls-Alden team that has been playing very well,” WCHS head coach Marty McKinney said. “The girls put together four consistent quarters of basketball and made winning plays at key times.
“We took care of the basketball and got good looks on offense. On defense, we got some key stops late in the game to seal it.”
Lovie Pruismann, a sophomore, contributed nine points. Freshman Evie Davis had six points, five rebounds and a blocked shot.
Tristyn Wright, also a 10th-grader, chipped in four boards, four steals and dished out three assists.
Webster City honored seniors Gallentine, Hedeen, and Mia Hansen, along with Breanna Bahrenfuss and Ady Poppen.
“The seniors have all bought into the process that we have been preaching since day one,” McKinney said. “They will be remembered as the foundation of building our program back to where we want it to be.”
The Cadets are now 8-9 and 3-6.
The Lynx close the regular season with five consecutive road games starting Friday at No. 8 (Class 3A) Algona.
