The Webster City girls gave themselves a chance at home on Tuesday against South Central Calhoun, coming up just short in a 47-36 final.

Olivia Gallentine had eight points, 10 rebounds and two assists to lead the Lynx, as Alivia Burns knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and finished with seven points.

“We played our best quarter in the first, scoring 17 points,” WCHS head coach Marty McKinney said. “It was a struggle at that end the rest of the night, and turnovers once again played a big part of that struggle.”

Webster City had a 17-13 lead after the opening eight minutes, but were outscored 9-2 in the second by the Titans (2-3) and 21-11 over the next 16 minutes. They also committed 25 turnovers.

“Defensively, we guarded very well at times,” McKinney said. “We just couldn’t get enough stops combined with points at the offensive end in the fourth quarter.”

Avery Poppen contributed six points and four rebounds while both Marissa Hedeen and Evie Davis each grabbed nine rebounds.

The Lynx return to North Central Conference play on Friday when they travel to Hampton-Dumont/CAL with a 6:15 p.m. start. It will be “Slam the Stigma Night” in the Bulldog gym. Webster City turns right around and heads to Garner-Hayfield/Ventura on Saturday for a 2:15 p.m. tip.

Starting at $3.46/week.
