The Webster City boys basketball team tasted victory for the first time on the young season with a 49-46 home victory over South Central Calhoun on Tuesday night.

The Lynx evened their record at 1-1 by placing three players in double figures. Senior Cole Miller had a game-high 18 points, with junior Carter Mickelson adding 14 and senior Conner Peck contributing 10.

Webster City dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Titans (2-2) by a 35-16 count. Senior Luke Firsching (nine rebounds), Miller (eight), Peck (eight) and junior Matthew Tesdahl (six) all gave significant contributions.

Peck also dished out five assists, with Tesdahl tallying four assists and four steals. Mickelson notched three steals.

The Lynx shot 47 percent from the field, which helped them overcome struggles with free throws (3 for 11) and turnovers (25).

South Central Calhoun made only 37 percent of its field goal tries, and attempted only two foul shots. Andrew Anderson (13 points) was its only player to reach double figures.

Webster City returns to action on Thursday at North Polk. The Lynx then head to Hampton-Dumont/CAL on Friday.
