Lynx wrestlers win dual over Lions
The Webster City wrestling team eight matches and scored bonus points in seven of those in claiming a 43-33 dual over Clear Lake here last Thursday night in North Central Conference action.
Eli Estlund started the scoring for the Lynx off with a major decision at 190 pounds, as Cody Elliott followed with a decision.
After three straight wins by the Lions, Webster City reeled off six consecutive, including receiving four forfeit wins for Brayden Burnett, Tariq Burton, Dawson Bertran and Ridge Berninghaus.
Carson Burnett picked up a fall in 61 seconds at 126 pounds, as Jaysen Vankham earned himself a pin at 144 in 1:54.
The Lynx wrestled at the Don Miller Invitational on Saturday.
Cody Elliott (215) earned the highest finish for the Lynx. Elliott pinned Humboldt’s Cael Donahe in 2:54 of the third place match.
Elliott beat Colton Mouw of Sioux Center 8-2 in the quarterfinals. He fell to Nick Saxton of Emmetsburg 7-0 in the semifinals. Elliott bounced back with a 13-4 major decision over Ethan Kuennen of Decorah in the consolation semifinals.
Carson Bertran (175) started the day with a tech fall (16-1) in the quarterfinals. He lost to Fort Dodge’s Jesse Egli (12-6) in the semifinals and Ankeny Centennial’s Ryan Smith (11-5) in the consolation semifinals.
He earned a 6-3 decision over Tayten Rummel of Algona in the fifth place match.
Dawson Bertran (138), and Tristan Mason (150) were sixth. Carson Burtnett (126) was seventh, while Brayden Burtnett (120), Blake Berninghaus (157) and Cael Alexander (285) were all eighth.
