The Webster City football team returns home this Friday night in search of district win No. 1.
The Lynx host Hampton-Dumont/CAL beginning at 7 p.m.
Last week, Webster City (1-4 overall, 0-1 in district) dropped a tough 49-21 decision to seventh-ranked (Class 3A) Clear Lake on the road. They have lost four in a row overall since a 41-13 season-opening win over Fort Dodge.
Cael Nixon had a big night, rushing for 115 yards with two touchdowns on 25 carries while Jaxon Griffith added 100 yards and a score on the ground. Luke Estlund rushed for 41 more as Webster City racked up 270 yards rushing.
Jayden Weinzetl had a sack on defense and two tackles for loss among his 7.5 stops. Aiden Hrnicek also had 7.5 tackles with Dawson Bertran, Luke Estlund, Eli Estlund and Carson Bertran all recording a tackle in the backfield.
Griffith leads the team with 476 yards rushing and is tied with Nixon and Luke Estlund with three touchdowns on the year. Nixon has 286 yards, Estlund has 171 and Weinzetl has 140.
Hampton-Dumont/CAL (2-3, 0-1) has lost three in a row, including a forfeit to West Marshall last month in a game that they had originally won. No. 5 Humboldt topped the Bulldogs last Friday, 28-10.
Colin Bird, a senior, paced the H-D/CAL attack with 427 yards rushing and four touchdowns while Ryder Strother has thrown for 274 and ran for another 124. He has three passing touchdowns with Brody Strother his top target, catching eight passes for 103 while adding 131 yards rushing.
The Lynx have won each of the last five meetings between the North Central Conference rivals, including a 35-6 victory last year. The average score of those five meetings has been 40-9 in favor of Webster City.
