Lynx pass first postseason test
The Webster City volleyball team came out Tuesday and took care of business, scoring a sweep over Boone to begin Class 3A regional play.
Scores were 25-19, 25-22 and 25-14.
With the win, the Lynx (16-12 overall) advance to face Sergeant Bluff-Luton on Thursday in a Region 5 semifinal. The Warriors (19-13) received a bye.
Olivia Gallentine and Avery Poppen both recorded 11 kills on the night while Tristyn Wright had eight and Addilyn Orton had five.
“It was great to see the girls come out and win in three,” WCHS head coach Jess Howard said. “They stayed consistent throughout the match and kept their composure when they did run into some trouble.”
Cloe Savitski was all over the court, picking up 18 digs to lead the way. Wright had 12, Alivia Burns 10, Hedeen seven and Morgan Hackbarth six. Gallentine also recorded 17 assists with Wright adding 13.
The Lynx missed just three serves on the night, as Hackbarth and Hailey Brim were both 17-for-17. Hackbarth had five aces and Brim one while Gallentine recorded three aces and Hedeen added one.
Gallentine was 13 of 13 serving, Hedeen went 11 of 12 and Wright was 6-for-6.
Avery Poppen added three kills, four digs and a block, Jaylyn Bahrenfuss had one kill, a block and a dig while Orton added two blocks and two digs.
Awaiting the winner between Webster City and Sergeant Bluff-Luton will be either Lewis Central (24-8) or Carroll (18-17), who square off in the other semifinal. That game will be played next Tuesday with a spot in the state tournament on the line.
