Cherry named ICCAC player of week
COUNCIL BLUFFS — Former Webster City all-stater Jaxon Cherry has been recognized for his efforts at the collegiate level.
Cherry, a freshman for second-ranked Iowa Western, was tabbed the ICCAC offensive player of the week for his efforts in a 42-20 victory over Coffeyville on Homecoming last weekend.
On just six rushing attempts, Cherry, Webster City’s career rushing leader, scored three touchdowns.
Cherry, who ran for 1,891 yards as a senior for the Lynx, has played along the defensive line in previous games.
His first touchdown opened the scoring and capped a 10-play, 65-yard drive. Cherry found the end zone in the second quarter, again from 1-yard out, with his third TD being on a direct snap in the fourth from 10 yards to make it 42-13 at the time.
On the year, Cherry has three tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Former Iowa State quarterback Hunter Dekkers threw for 275 yards with two touchdowns for the Reivers, as Cherry was part of a ground attack that had 150 yards rushing on the day.
