Lynx take down Algona
The Webster City volleyball team scored a three-set sweep over North Central Conference rival Algona here Thursday night, dealing the Bulldogs their first loss of the season.
Scores were 26-24, 26-24 and 25-21.
Olivia Gallentine recorded 14 kills with Marissa Hedeen and Addilyn Orton each picking up seven. Lovie Pruismann and Tristyn Wright both had two kills on the night for the Lynx (5-4 overall, 1-0 in the NCC).
“It was a complete team effort,” WCHS head coach Jess Howard said. “The girls were really flowing together and communicating.
“We started slow in the first set but bounced back and believed. They showed a lot of trust in each other and it was a lot of fun to watch them on the court flow.”
Wright, a sophomore, also had 17 assists and was 14-for-15 serving with two aces. Gallentine added 15 assists and an ace while Morgan Hackbarth was 10 of 11 with an ace.
Cloe Savitski picked up 20 digs, Hackbarth 18, Wright 12 and Alivia Burns five. Pruismann, Hedeen and Avery Poppen each had a block while Hailey Brim was 16-for-17 serving with an ace.
“Algona is a tough team with strong hitters and a real good defense,” Howard said. “Our girls did a good job adjusting to the open spots and were quick on offense.
“We were able to control the tempo of the game and come out on top.”
The Lynx return to action on Tuesday at Clear Lake.
