Hawks compete at Gilbert Invite

AMES — The South Hamilton cross country teams raced against some of the best runners in the state here last Thursday at the Gilbert Invitational.

Pella, Solon, Clear Creek-Amana and the host Tigers were among those in the field.

Leading the way for the Hawk boys was Hayden Hill, as he finished 93rd overall in 18:30. Laken Zanker was 129th, Carson Gibbs 152nd and Trevor Zanker 162nd.

Cici Herrick paced the South Hamilton girls, as she crossed home in 23:03 for 94th overall. Olivia Beaune was 97th, Brooklyn Doolittle placed 118th and Isabel Swenson was 127th.

Gilbert won the boys team title as Pella’s Canaan Dunham was the individual race winner. Pella swept on the girls side, winning team gold with Marissa Ferebee claiming the individual race.

The Hawks return to action on Thursday when they they race in Story at the Colo-Nesco Invitational. Other teams in attendance include Ankeny Christian, Baxter, BGM, Colfax-Mingo, GMG, Meskwaki Settlement and North Tama.
