Lynx, Hawks begin the year at Story City

STORY CITY — The Webster City volleyball team got their season started here Monday night with three matches.
The Lynx topped South Hamilton in two around a pair of losses to Roland-Story and Central Springs.
Olivia Gallentine led the way with 11 kills while adding 18 assists. Marissa Hedeen had eight kills and four blocks, Tristyn Wright had six kills and 14 assists, and Addilyn Orton recorded seven kills.
Cloe Savitski picked up 15 digs and Morgan Hackbarth seven, Ellie Peterson had a pair of assists and Avery Poppen registered six blocks.
“We showed some nerves early on but worked through it,” WCHS head coach Jess Howard said. “We improved with each match and that was good to see.”
Scores vs. South Hamilton were 25-12 and 25-14 in favor of the Lynx, with the sets vs. Central Springs being decided by three and two points.
“We definitely had some opportunities to have a different outcome with Central Springs, and I think with some experience, that will happen,” Howard said. “I thought we also competed really well vs. a tough Roland-Story squad.”
The Hawks were defeated by Roland-Story, 25-7 and 25-5.
Webster City returns to action Thursday when they host Boone before heading to St. Edmond Saturday for an invitational. South Hamilton takes on BCLUW and South Hardin in its home opener on Thursday at 5 and 8 p.m.
