Ready to run
FORT DODGE — Year one under Andy Brim kicks off on the road this Friday night for the Webster City football team.
The Lynx make the short trip west to take on Fort Dodge beginning at 7 p.m.
Brim, who worked under Bob Howard for several years before Howard retired, has several letterwinners back including returning senior starters in Luke Estlund, Jayden Weinzetl, Cael Nixon, Carson Bertran and Gabe Ruby.
Juniors Aiden Hrnicek, Bean Nohrenberg and Cole Nohrenberg are also back as starters with Jacob Feldhaus, Jake Rohmiller, Max McGilligan, Brian Alaniz, Brandon Newman, Jaxon Griffith, Cody Elliott and Eli Estlund having all seen the field a year ago as well.
Nixon ran for 606 yards and scored seven touchdowns while Estlund added 351 and two. Both will be counted on to replace the production lost from graduates Jaxon Cherry and Keegan Hisler.
Hrnicek, Estlund, Weinzetl, Nixon, Beau Nohrenberg and Bertran are all key tacklers back on defense for Webster City, who allowed under 14 points in seven games last year including four straight wins in October.
The Lynx also posted a 27-7 victory in the playoffs vs. Nevada before falling to Creston.
Webster City topped the Dodgers in Week 1 a year ago, 35-28, rushing for 377 yards as a team.
Fort Dodge, who is coached by former Dodger all-stater and Iowa State Cyclone Nik Moser, will be without the services of all-stater Dreshaun Ross. The junior, who has football offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan, Nebraska and several other schools, is out for the year after undergoing shoulder surgery.
Ross ran for 729 yards, scored eight touchdowns and recorded 61.5 tackles with 11 for loss.
Jamarius Gibbs-Green is the leading returning rusher with Noah Daniel also back. The two combined for over 600 yards and nine TDs with Tytrell Mosley the top receiver for new quarterback Tru McBride.
Webster City and Fort Dodge were district foes for two seasons, with the Lynx earning 62-23 and 41-14 triumphs.
