RANKED SHOWDOWN

A Top-10 showdown is set for Lynx Field this Friday night, as No. 6 (Class 3A) Webster City welcomes in fifth-ranked (4A) North Polk.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Homecoming.

The Lynx (2-0 overall) used another monster effort from Jaxon Cherry to run through Spencer last Friday, 34-7. Cherry finished with 321 yards and five touchdowns on 30 carries, inching himself closer to the top spot on the school’s career rushing charts.

Cherry now has 3,455 yards, with Gavin Dinsdale first with 3,643. He has also scored 60 touchdowns in his career.

Keegan Hisler continues to find his comfort level at spinback, running for 132 yards while throwing for 36, including the game-winning score in a victory two weeks ago vs. Fort Dodge.

The Lynx defense is led by Cherry and Josh Stansfield, who each have two sacks. Cherry also has 14.5 tackles and Jayden Weinzetl 10 with the team recovering five fumbles.

North Polk (2-0) is more of a balanced offense led by Isaac Zoske, as the senior is completing 60 percent of his passes for 496 yards with eight touchdowns and no interceptions on 45 attempts.

BJ Tate has rushed for 145 yards and scored three touchdowns as Colton Manock is the top receiver with six receptions for 208 and three scores. Kale Yoakum and Brock Miller each have six catches, with three of Yoakum’s going for touchdowns.

The Comets opened with a 43-39 victory over Bondurant-Farrar and followed that up by downing Carlisle last Friday, 43-7.

Webster City and North Polk, who are separated by some 60 miles, will be meeting for the first time.

Starting at $3.46/week.
