FORT DODGE — The Webster City volleyball team showed plenty of grit and determination here Saturday at the St. Edmond Invitational.
The Lynx pulled out a trio of three-set victories to finish second overall at 4-1 on the day. Only Aplington-Parkersburg was able to get the best of Webster City (6-2 overall).
After going 2-1 during a triangular to begin the season, the Lynx have already secured five three-set wins. In four of those, they dropped the opening set before rallying to capture the final two.
Webster City downed Bishop Garrigan (21-14, 21-9), St. Edmond (18-21, 21-17, 15-10), Southeast Valley (13-21, 21-19, 15-13) and Pocahontas Area (21-14, 17-21, 15-13). The loss to Aplington-Parkersburg was by scores of 21-13 and 21-8.
Against the Golden Bears, Marissa Hedeen recorded five kills and Olivia Gallentine added four. Adeline Tesdahl tallied six digs. Hedeen finished with four ace serves.
Delainey Bargfrede had eight assists.
In the win over the Gaels, Gallentine and Addilyn Orton notched five kills each. Bargfrede dished out 12 assists.
Tesdahl led the way with 15 digs.
Bargfrede (seven kills) and Tesdahl (six) led the way in the victory versus Southeast Valley. Ava Peterson finished with 11 assists.
Adysen Poppen recorded three ace serves. Bargfrede paced the team in digs (eight).
Bargfrede had six kills and nine assists to help Webster City top the Indians. Poppen had six ace serves.
Tesdahl and Cloe Savitski finished with eight digs a piece.
Up next for the Lynx will be the North Central Conference opener vs. Humboldt on Thursday inside the Webster City High School gym. The match will be middle school recognition night.
