South Hamilton fares well on the links

This week has been good to the South Hamilton boys’ golf team.

Starting off with a triangular against St. Edmond and Saydel on Monday at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge and competing against North Polk, Roland-Story and Saydel on Tuesday at the Tournament Club of Iowa in Polk City, the Hawks finished no lower than second.

On Monday, the Hawks finished with 176 strokes, just eight strokes shy of St. Edmond’s 168 strokes and ahead of Saydel’s 213 strokes. Sophomore Landon Sogard’s 42 and junior Tjerdan Johnson’s 45 paced the Hawks.

Junior Tyler Schachtner added a 46, followed by sophomore Connor Deppe’s 50. Freshman Michael Carlson carded 55, and teammate Luke Martensen logged a 57.

On Tuesday, the Hawks had a 183, behind North Polk’s 158. South Hamilton finished ahead of Roland-Story’s 194 and Saydel’s 263.

Johnson led the way with a 45, while Schachtner followed with a total of 46. Deppe carded 50. Carlson picked up 55, and Martensen had 57.

Today, the Hawks will compete in an area quadrangular at the Woodland Hills Golf Course in Saylorville. There, South High will compete against Greene County, North Polk, Roland-Story and Saydel.
