She graduated from Webster City High School in 1967 and Marshalltown School of Nursing as a registered nurse in May 1971. Maryann served in the United States Airforce where she met her husband, Edward Byrne while stationed in Turkey. They finished out their service in California where their two children were born, then moved “home” to Iowa in 1978 where she began her employment at Hamilton County Public Hospital in the OB department. The couple later divorced.
She is survived by her daughter. Stacy (Travis) Wearda of Duncombe; son, Matthew (Kim) Byrne of Webster City; grandchildren, Alexis (Mark) Anderson, Chase (Carlee) Berhow, Mattie Byrne, Emma Peck, Taylor Shubin; great-grandchildren, Charlene Anderson, Wade Anderson, and Hallee Berhow and brother, Michael McKee of Webster City.
Maryann was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Matthew and Maynard McKee; and her beloved dog, Riggs.
She was a member of the PEO EL, and the First Congregational UCC. Maryann was a nurturer by nature. Her entire life was devoted to caring for others, from the countless babies she helped to deliver, her parents as they aged, of course her children, and was very active in caring for grandchildren. Last but certainly not least, she loved her companion Riggs, and never did another dog ever enjoy more treats than him.
