Evelyn Roden

Following her 1944 graduation from J. P. McCaskey High School, she worked as a secretary. On January 26, 1947, she married Raymond M. Roden; this union lasted 62 years until his death in 2009. When Ray had the opportunity to achieve his dream of attending college and later seminary, she fully supported him. His ministerial calls took them to churches in Lancaster and Ephrata, PA, and Webster City, IA, as well as interim pastorates in Fort Dodge, Badger, and Stratford, IA. She was an active partner in each location, serving countless hours as Sunday School teacher and superintendent, confirmation class teacher, women’s circle member, or choir member. In her free time Evie loved to travel, dine out, and visit with family and friends. For many years she enjoyed China painting. She was a 50-year member of P.E.O.

She is survived by her children, Sharon (Jon) Grossardt, Winona, MN, and Mark (Bridget) Roden, Webster City, IA. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Tammy (Greg) Massman, Nicholas Grossardt, Christopher Roden, Anne (Jason Wolf) Grossardt, Jacob (India) Roden, and Matthew Roden, as well as seven great-grandchildren: Kaylee, Kory, Kaden, and Kinley Massman and Knox, Cade, and Juno Roden.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Richard Bear, and two sisters, Marian Evans and Pauline Leonard.

A memorial service is scheduled for Sat., Jan. 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the convenience of the family.
