Dorothy Mailander
Dorothy J. Mailander, 102, of Webster City. died 12/31/2024 at Waverly Gardens in North Oaks, MN. Inurnment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Dorothy was born in St. Paul, MN, to Nickolas and Olga Dark. She traveled to Fairbanks, AK, as a young woman. There she met John Mailander stationed there with the US Army. They married in Wiota, IA, in 1949. During their 23 year service with the Air Force, they lived in Omaha, NE; Enid, OK; London, England; Fargo, ND; and Duluth, MN. In 1964, they moved to Webster City where they lived the rest of their lives.
Dorothy is survived by a sister, Ellen (John) Harding of Australia; a son Carl Mailander of Webster City; daughters Barbara (David) Roe of Huntersville, NC; Joan (Andrew) Ervin of White Bear Lake, MN; Susan Mailander of Sunnyvale, CA; and Jean (Alan Shankland) Mailander of Medford, OR; grandson Jason (Gretchen) Roe; granddaughters Erin (Thad) Trantham and Emily (Matt) Dtoffel; great-granddaughters Sarah and Abby Trantham and Blossom Roe and great-grandson Paul Roe.
Dorothy was a beloved “grandma Lander” who will be missed every day but will continue to inspire and guide us.
