Bret Pigsley

After a valiant four-year battle with cancer, Bret Pigsley, age 60, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024, at his home in Eagan, MN, surrounded by family.

A fighter from the start, he came into the world prematurely in Clarion, IA, born to Ivan and Carole (Story) Pigsley. After his graduation from Webster City High School, he completed a bachelor’s degree at Luther College in Decorah, IA, and began a lifelong commitment to serving others through social work.

In 1993, Bret married Christine Mollenkopf. Bret and Christine are the proud parents of three children they raised in homes in Iowa and Minnesota. Together, the family has enjoyed many years of traveling, visits with family in Iowa and Florida, playing board games, and bonfires in the backyard.

During his school years, Bret raised and showed hogs and was a member of the Webster City Future Farmers of America (FFA). He cherished his many dogs as members of his family throughout his life.

Bret and Christine met doing community theater in Webster City and he retained this connection to the arts as a proud “dance dad” for daughter Olivia. He enjoyed a weekly Dungeons and Dragons game with his son and good friends. An avid fan of the Dr. Who TV series, he and daughter Lauren watched all the episodes from the 1970’s to today.

At the time of his death, Bret was employed by the State of Minnesota, working with adoptive children and families.

Bret is survived by his wife of 31 years, Christine Mollenkopf-Pigsley of Eagan, MN; and children Lauren, Drew, and Olivia Pigsley; his parents Ivan and Carole (Story) Pigsley of Webster City, IA; sisters Natalie Hughes (Doug) of Maplewood, MN, and Heather Wiedman (Jason) of Ankeny, IA; in-laws James and Kay Mollenkopf of Sebring, FL; sister in-law Kimberly Harrington (Scott) of Sebring, FL; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Burt (Vern) and Emaline Pigsley, and Norval and LaVonne Story.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 11 am at Washington Lutheran Church in Duncombe, IA. There will also be a celebration of Bret’s life at a later date in the Twin Cities.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Carver Scott Humane Society (https://www.carverscotths.org/donations). Please include a note in the comments that the gift is in memory of Bret Pigsley.
