Robert James Schulz II, son of Robert James and Patricia Ann (Nelson) Schulz, was born November 13, 1950, in Fort Dodge. He grew up in Rockwell City and graduated from Rockwell City high school in 1969. He continued his education and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa (Go Panthers) in 1975. On July 17, 1982, Bob was united in marriage to Rhonda Wells in Rockwell City. Together they had one son, Robert (Bob) Ernest Schulz.
Bob enjoyed his career working with kids and families and watching them thrive. He worked in Johnston, Montevideo, MN, and finally in Webster City where he was the Director of the Youth and Family Center, retiring in 2011. Bob began his second career of volunteering for many activities in Webster City, including Upper Des Moines Opportunities, Webster City Day Care and Van Diest Medical Center. He truly enjoyed the work he did at the hospital and the many friends he made. Bob served on the Planning and Zoning Commission in Webster City for over 13 years and the Webster City Day Care board. He spent many hours walking the Briggs Woods trail and picked up trash as he went along. It was of great importance to Bob to give back to the community where he lived.
He was a person who loved people and always found someone to talk to no matter where he was. Bob had life-long friends from his college days who made it a point to see each other often. He loved to fish and spent many hours on Eagle Lake in Canada. Bob canoed down many Iowa rivers, with the Boone River being one of his favorites.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rhonda; son, Robert E. (Kayle) Schulz of North Liberty and their kids Ellie and Robert; sisters, Linda (Brian) Heide of Rockwell City, Sharon (Al) Mundt of Gowrie, Sue (Pat) Moore of South Twin Lake; in-laws, Susan (Robert) Conner of Norwalk, Patty (Jim) Clark of Guthrie Center, Sara Bullock (Mike Burkhart) of Woodard, Jason (Mandi) Wells of Atchison, KS, and many extended family members.
