Pat Bergeson
Pat Bergeson, 85, of Webster City died Wednesday, December 25, 2024 at her home. She had been in failing health for several years and been recently diagnosed with late onset Alzheimer’s dementia. Her wish was to be cared for at home and the loving care of her great-granddaughter, Alexis Armstrong and Jim, her wishes were made. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 28, 2024 at the Jewell United Church of Christ in Jewell. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted with the services.
Patricia Marilyn Headley, daughter of Orville and Jennie (Olson) Headley, was born August 26, 1939 in Story City. Pat grew up on a farm north of Jewell. She attended country school and then school in Jewell, graduating from Jewell High School in 1957. Pat married Denny Herbert on April 21, 1958 at the Jewell United Church of Christ. They lived in Jewell, where two sons were born, Lee and Les. Pat was primarily a homemaker and later found time to work part-time. She worked at the Jewell Veterinary Clinic, Jewell Post Office and Iowa State Liqueur Store in Jewell. She was South Hamilton’s news correspondent for the KQWC radio station in Webster City for 12 years. After she and Denny divorced, she moved to Webster City. Pat married James A. Bergeson on February 22, 1992. After Jim’s retirement from Foster Funeral Home in 1994, the couple stayed in Webster City and Pat continued to care for her mother in Jewell and later in Webster City. Pat was a lifelong member of the Jewell United Church of Christ, a former member of Tri-T of Webster City and was secretary for Jewell High School Alumni Association for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; son, Les (Kathy) Herbert of Martinsburg, WV; daughter-in-law, Dixie Herbert of Lincoln, NE and stepsons, Jeff (Kathy) Bergeson of Yankton, SD and Lance (Sylvia) Bergeson of Clive, IA. Pat’s grandchildren, Heather (Eric) Schachtner of Radcliffe, Austin Herbert of Lincon, NE; granddaughter-in-law, Maria Herbert of Tama; step grandchildren, Evan (Lindsay) Bergeson of Des Moines, Dr. Kyle (Kaitlyn) Bergeson of Yankton, SD, Annika and Lucas Bergeson of Clive, Jason and Niki McDaniel of Lincoln, NE and Tyler Schachtner of Radcliffe. Great-grandchildren, Alexis (Bryan) Armstrong of Radcliffe, Brandyn Feighner of Ames, McKenzie Herbert of Jewell, Hazlee Herbert of Lincoln, NE, Naomi Kapayou and Zayden Herbert of Tama. Great-great grandchildren, Harrison and Maizlee Armstrong of Radcliffe.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents; son, Lee Herbert; grandson, Jeremy Herbert and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorials may be left in Pat’s honor to the Jewell Church of Christ.
