DONALD REXROAT

A man of many talents has left this earth and the world will forever be a better place because of him.

Donald Rexroat, 82, of Williams died Thursday, December 16, 2021 at this home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery, north of Stratford. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday morning at the funeral home.

Donald Eugene Rexroat was born May 23, 1939 on their family farm, the middle child of seven to Rufus and Marie (Carlson) Rexroat. He graduated from Stratford high school in 1957 as valedictorian of his class. Don served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964, stationed in Germany. He graduated from Cook school in the military with top honors. In 1966, a friend told him to go check out a beautiful girl singing down at the Moose Lodge. This is where he met the love of his life, Marsha Matteson. They married on January 2, 1967. They had two sons, Anthony and Nicholas. Their almost 55 year marriage set the bar high and together they built an amazing life. Don worked at Electrolux for 40 years and has since enjoyed 20 years of retirement.

He had many talents and turned them into hobbies. Don loved wood woodworking and he created beautiful pieces for others. He could fix anything! Don loved camping, kayaking and fishing. He was a great singer and had a love for music. He played saxophone in his younger years, guitar, and was self-taught on his harmonica.

His family will miss his zest for life and that it never dimmed even in this last year when his declining health took away most of the things he enjoyed. We will miss his ability to tell a story remembering every detail, as if he were still in that moment. Recalling his first date with his wife, shenanigans with friends in Stratford, his boys in their younger years, and his early life on the farm. We will miss asking for his advice and even hearing his opinion on everything. Don had so much energy that he would often be playing on the floor with great grandkids in his 80s. Most of all we will miss his humor because he wasn’t just funny, he was hilarious. Fortunately for us, his loud laugh that would fill any room will never be forgotten.

Don is survived by his wife, Marsha of Williams; son, Nick (Kris) Rexroat of Webster City; grandkids, Annessa (Andy) Pruismann, Logan (Jordan) Rexroat, Dustin Rexroat, Caitlin Rexroat, Logan Hartmann, Brady (Katelyn) Hartmann, Abbi (Jake) Fisher; 11 great-grandkids; siblings; Shirley (Charlie) Jenner of California, Judy Elsberry of Boone, Mary Jean Rexroat of Windsor Heights and his dog/best friend and biggest annoyance, Bandit and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Marie; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Selma and Vic Hisler; son, Tony Rexroat; brother, Duane Rexroat, and sisters, Deloris Lunvall and Gloria Ulrick.
