KAREN WEIR
Karen Rae (Nelson) Weir of Webster City was born to Wilbur & Valene (Porter) Nelson on October 13, 1939 in Gifford, Iowa. She passed away peacefully on December 16, 2020 at Windsor Manor at the age of 81. Karen was a member of the First Congregational Church in Webster City. She was a member of the Class of 1957. Services are pending with Foster Funeral and Cremation Center.
Karen was united in marriage to Kenneth Fritz Weir on January 11, 1958. They lived in Clarion, Iowa before moving to Webster City in 1959. Karen worked at Dunn’s Super Valu, Franklin Manufacturing and Van Diest Supply Company before retiring in March 1999. The couple enjoyed years of camping together in Clear Lake, Iowa, traveling, and wintering in Yuma, Arizona. Fritz passed away in November 2001. Following the death of her husband, Karen met Ray Lawson. Karen and Ray spent 12 years together until his death.
Left to cherish her memory are 3 daughters, all in Iowa; Susan Meinders of Webster City, Kathy Jo (Dave) Howard, Estherville, and Kristi (Chris) Schmidt of Norwalk; 8 grandchildren, Jaymie (Matthew) Brown and Jacob Meinders of Yuma, AZ; Nicole (Josh) Tobin of Swea City, Amy Howard of Dunnell, Minnesota and Rebecca Bates of Estherville; Mikayla, Carter and Cade Schmidt of Norwalk. Great grandchildren include: Tyler, Michael and Brayden Tobin of Swea City; Jacob, Maddison and Marcus Lyon of Sherburn, MN, Tatum and Teagan Bates of Estherville. Karen is also survived by her Sister, Pat Mechaelsen of Webster City, and brother Kenny (Pat) Nelson of Duncombe along with nieces and nephews Ben Mechaelsen, Tony Nelson, Nichole Flynn, Chris Nelson, Wade Nelson, Debbie Neal and Bryan Hansen.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Valene (Porter) Nelson; husband, Fritz Weir; son-in-law, Robert Meinders; sister-in-law, Donna Gates Frost; brother, Bob Nelson; brother-in-law, Lowell Mechaelsen; nephew, Brad Mechaelsen, and special friend, Ray Lawson.
