Donald Rollins, 45, Ames
Donald G. Rollins, 45, of Ames, passed away January 30, 2014. The family will receive friends 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 4, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames. Memorial services will be at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, also at Bethesda.
Donald Gayle Rollins was born February 8, 1968, to Donald L. and Carol M. (Kackley) Rollins, Jr. in Webster City, Iowa. Don graduated from Webster City High School in 1986. He was a three-sport athlete and played in the 1986 Shrine Bowl. He was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church. Don and Lise Sletten were married June 11, 1994, at Bethesda. He worked as a self-employed contractor. Don was a perfectionist and a true and gifted craftsman. He enjoyed volunteering at the church; when something needed to be done, Don was the one to call. He served as an usher, a confirmation mentor, a long-time member of the facilities committee, and a key member of a recent call committee and geothermal energy committee. Don’s favorite times were those spent with his family. He adored his wife and was proud of his daughters and their accomplishments. He was known as a man with a big heart.
Don is survived by his wife, Lise, and his daughters, Hannah and Halley, of Ames; his parents, Donald and Carol Rollins, Jr., of Webster City; and his sister, Le Ann Baker and her children, Emily, Katie and Tessa.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his aunt, Kathy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the family.
