Webster City Community Theatre will peruse ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ on April 27

Webster City Community Theatre will host a Readers Theatre on Sunday, April 27, at 3 p.m. to preview its summer musical, “Little Shop of Horrors.”

Readers Theatre is open to everyone who would like to learn more about the show, hear the music and read the script before auditions.

“Little Shop of Horrors” is a quirky musical about Seymour, a sweet but awkward florist who discovers a strange and exciting plant. He names it Audrey II, and things start looking up — until he realizes the plant thrives on human blood. As the plant grows, so does Seymour’s popularity, but keeping up with its appetite becomes a big problem. Things get wild fast, and Seymour learns that fame and fortune might come with a few unexpected strings attached.

Auditions are scheduled for Sunday, May 4, and Monday, May 5, at 6 p.m.

Performances are planned for July 10, 11, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19 and 20.

The production is under the direction of Anne Blankenship, with Kerryn Oliver serving as music director and Lindsay Henderson serving as choreographer. Katie Hildal is the production coordinator/stage manager.

Readers Theatre will be held at the lower level of the WCCT performing arts center, 1001 Willson Avenue, Webster City. Those attending may bring their own beverage and a snack to share, if they choose.
