Volunteers will clean up Wilson Brewer Park on Saturday
Work in the afternoon will help prep the place for the big April 12 Easter Egg Hunt
It is time to start sprucing up the Wilson Brewer Park. Its Foundation Board is seeking volunteers in the community to help.
With the big Easter Egg Hunt scheduled for Saturday, April 12, the early spring cleaning of the property is considered a priority. The Easter Egg Hunt is being held in cooperation with the Trinity Lutheran Church, Webster City.
On Saturday, the clean-up event starts at noon and continues until 4 p.m. April 6 has been set as a rain date.
Volunteers are asked to bring their own rakes, brooms and gloves. Water bottles or snacks for personal consumption are also welcome.
Work will include picking up sticks that have fallen from trees, sweeping off sidewalks and the trail, and bagging up leaves and any trash that may have been trapped around the various buildings.
The need for the clean up was demonstrated this week when winds broke off a large branch from a tree near the Depot Museum. That branch fell across a power line, pulling it to the ground and bending the mast on the depot.
The City of Webster City Line Department was able to release the line from the limb and put a temporary attachment on the building. The large limb was sawed up by the city crew and removed, but many smaller branches and limbs still need to be raked and swept up.
“Because of the coming Easter Egg Hunt and the concern for additional falling branches, we pursued getting quotes for the removal of the tree as soon as possible,” Doug Bailey, Foundation board president, said.
Mark Roberts, who is the Foundation board member responsible for the building and grounds, checks the property regularly and reported the downed line. The tree will be removed prior to the Easter Egg Hunt.
The board planned the clean-up day prior to the April 12 event to insure a safe and enjoyable day at the park.
During the afternoon on Saturday, volunteers who would like to assist in other ways at the Wilson Brewer Park throughout the spring and summer will be asked to share their contact information and areas of interest.
Formal training for volunteers will be scheduled closer to the park’s opening day, which is in May.
