Personal belongings dropped off at jail lead to drug charges

A Webster City man wanted for multiple sex offender registry violations was arrested Monday and additionally charged with drug offenses after his personal belongings were dropped off at the Hamilton County Jail, according to Hamilton County Sheriff Alex Pruismann.

Daniel Reames, 60, faces six counts of felony sex offender violations, three counts of felony possession of a controlled substance, and a misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a media release from Pruismann.

His arrest stemmed from an April 9 investigation into his sex offender registry compliance.

“During his arrest, Reames was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, cocaine and fentanyl,” the media release from Pruismann explains.

A criminal complaint on the incident filed by Hamilton County Sheriff’s Deputy Alexander Sharp states: “I was called to the Hamilton County Jail for contraband found. Upon my arrival, I observed several small baggies on a counter near

the defendant’s backpack.

“Jailers informed me the defendant’s backpack had been brought in for him, and while searching it, jail staff located two baggies, one of which would test positive for cocaine. The cocaine was located in a black zippered pouch in a sweatshirt inside the defendant’s backpack.

“Also in the backpack were the defendant’s wallet containing his Iowa drivers license, and the defendant’s cell phone. I read the defendant his Miranda rights, and the defendant admitted the backpack was his and had been secured behind a locked door at his place of work. Photos were taken, and the cocaine was secured in evidence.”

Reames in being held in the Hamilton County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
