Accident pins Leon’s Pizza delivery driver’s foot under minivan tire

A woman delivering a Leon’s Pizza order was hurt Saturday night when her parked car was struck by a minivan and her foot was pinned under one of that vehicle’s tires.

Dawn Obrecht’s right foot was stuck under the left front tire of the minivan when Webster City Police arrived on scene near the intersection of Third and Grove streets around 8:15 p.m.

She had dialled 911 from that position.

Police said in a report that Gilberto Andrade-Calles, 40, eastbound on Third Street, passed around a car that was legally parked on the south side of the street. Obrecht was standing outside her car that was stopped in a no parking zone on the opposite side of the street.

Police said somehow Andrade-Calles’s vehicle drifted into Obbrecht’s car and, even though the headlights on her car were on, didn’t see Obrecht and pushed her to the ground before striking the driver’s side of her car.

Andrade-Calles thought he might have hit a child when he heard screaming.

EMS took Obrecht, 50, to Van Diest Medical Center for treatment.

A field sobriety test showed that Andrade-Calles was not under the influence of intoxicants. He was, however, charged with driving while suspended and failure to maintain control.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

Starting at $3.46/week.
