Webster City police chief resigns in wake of investigation
Shiloh Mork resigned as chief of police in Webster City effective Wednesday, Dec. 18.
That resignation comes in the wake of an investigation.
“The city conducted an investigation into allegations related to Shiloh Mork’s service as a police chief,” according to a press release from the City of Webster City, “which included allegations that he:
— “Falsified a summons in a criminal case document.
— “Fabricated an FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) investigation and criminal charges involving city administration.
— “Engaged in intimidation and isolation of a co-worker through falsified information.”
Mork was placed on administrative leave on Nov. 18. He declined Wednesday to discuss his professional decision.
“I have no comments for publication,” he said.
According to the press release from the city, “The investigation into those allegations included conclusions that:
— “Police Chief Mork fabricated stories to a city co-worker about other city employees, including false claims of fraud, racketeering, and money laundering for a cartel, as well as an invented FBI investigation and false claims that he was being asked to testify before a grand jury.
— “Police Chief Mork located a federal court summons template online and filled it in with false information indicating that city employees were under investigation for ongoing criminal conduct, conduct unbecoming a public official, RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations), and conspiracy to defraud, which was sent to a city co-worker.
— “Police Chief Mork made accusations causing a city co-worker fear by falsifying an elaborate story about other city employees engaging in criminal activity.
— “Police Chief Mork falsified information including about serious matters such as criminal law enforcement investigations and a plan to promote a city co-worker in an attempt to manipulate, isolate, and control the co-worker.”
Mork was appointed police chief in Webster City in 2014. At that time, he had already worked in the department for 14 years, according to the Daily Freeman-Journal files.
